Introduction

The Principality of Monaco is an independent sovereign state and, since its inception, has always been a unique place in Europe from which to conduct business.

Its territory covers 1.97 km². Monaco's highest point is located 163 metres above sea level.

The principality has 4,100 metres of direct access to the sea, with its territory reaching between 350 and 1,050 metres off the coast.

More than 300,000 m² of its current land, or one sixth of its territory, has been reclaimed from the sea over the last 50 years.

Demographics

Monaco has a population of approximately 32,000 (6,100 Monegasques, 10,200 French, 6,400 Italians and 9,300 people representing 125 other nations).

42,500 people are currently employed in Monaco, 10,000 of whom live in the Principality. 32,500 commute every day from France and Italy.
